Sembalun is a valley in the highlands of East Lombok, at the foot of Mount Rinjani. It is greener and cooler than the coast, and a favourite day trip for families and couples who want a break from the beach.
How long is the drive?
From Kuta, the drive to Sembalun takes around two and a half hours each way. Starting early means you arrive while the air is still fresh and the light is soft for photos.

- Views of the hills around Mount Rinjani
What to bring
Bring a light jacket, comfortable shoes, and some cash for lunch and snacks. On our Sembalun trip, fuel, parking, entrance fees, water, and a selection of photos and videos are included. Lunch is at your own cost.
